The Mustang Chorus!

I was going to sing the Star Spangled Banner with my partners.  The Mustang Chorus!

I was going to the Saltdog's game with my school's fifth graders.  This is a time that I will never forget because for the past two Saltdog games, guess what I did there that was very special?  I sang the Star Spangled Banner.  I can remember going down the stairs onto the field not terrified at all.  We all heard the background music coming from the outside speakers.  "Ladies and gentlemen, please stand while the Meadow Lane Mustang Chorus presents the Star Spangled Banner", a man said.  There we were, waiting for the starting beat.  We started singing......Whooo...Yay...Great Job!  Everyone cheered.  All of a sudden we were all walking back up the stairs with our flags posted in our hands.

I was so proud.  That is the time I will never forget.  I hope they open the Star Spangled Banner up to middle school because I would do it!    by Lauren L.

My Experience at the Saltdogs

August 22, 2012 will be a day I will always remember.  I sang the National Anthem at the Saltdog's game.  After I stepped on the field, I was so excited that I was about to jump up and down.  I heard the music start.  I took a deep breath and sang.

After the song, I heard a lot of people saying GREAT job.  I don't think I could of done it without Mrs. Penington.      by Caleb R.

This and That...

1.  Fact Tests--Congratulations to the following students who showed mastery on their multiplication and division fact tests last Friday (8/24/12)...

Multiplication--->Mitchell S., Colby H., and Brina S.
Division--->Brina S. and Marissa W.

2.  Instrumental Music Lessons--Instrumental lessons have begun.  Students taking string lessons will have their lessons on Monday afternoons.  Students learning a band instrument will have their lessons on Tuesday.  Remember to bring your instruments to school so you are prepared.  Students also need to make certain to add practice time to their evening routines.

It is great to see so many students interested in a musical instrument.  I look forward to their future concerts!

3.  Curriculum Night--Parents, please join me this Thursday evening  (August 30th) for our curriculum night.  You can attend either of the sessions (6:00-6:35 or 6:45-7:20 pm).  It is a great opportunity to learn about what will happen in 5th grade this year.  I hope to see you Thursday evening.

Go Mustangs!

A GREAT Day for Baseball!

"Take me out to the ballgame..."

It was a hot and windy day at Haymarket Park but that didn't stop our 5th grade students from having a GREAT day!  There was singing, dancing, yelling, screaming, and MANY visits to the concession stands as we watched our Saltdogs beat the Sioux Falls Pheasants by a score of 7 to 1.  Even Homer had a great time at the game.

A special word of thanks to our Mustang Chorus.  Our chorus members were asked to sing the National Anthem before the game.  They did a marvelous job....a super patriotic performance to begin the game.   Go Mustangs!

They Know Their Facts!

Today, several students will be recognized for showing mastery of either their multiplication or division facts.  Last week, the students took timed tests over the three different forms of each test.  They needed a score of 45 out of 50 items in three minutes or less to show mastery of their basic facts.

Congratulations!!!!!

Showing mastery of their multiplication facts were:  Justin A., Amal A., Bradi B., Tina D., Olivia F., Chase H., Lauren L., Kamryn P., and Caleb R..

Showing mastery of their division facts were:  Justin A., Amal A., Bradi B., Tina D., Colby H., Chase H.  Lauren L., Kamryn P., Caleb R., and Mitch S..

Being able to quickly recall our facts is vital for success in Math.  I encourage everyone to spend time each night reviewing these facts.  Our goal is to have 100% of the students master their facts before the end of the school year.  Let's not wait that long...let's secure those facts right now!

Go Mustangs!
